Rachel and the TreeSchoolers: A Rainy Day DVD & CD Review

I received Rachel & the TreeSchoolers DVD, Episode 1 A Rainy Day to review, from Tomoson.com and it's a lovely DVD! The episode is about how the TreeSchooler's plan to play outside when lighting and thunder scares them. This DVD teaches about weather, problem solving, word rhyming, storytelling, kindness, courage, and sorting. The DVD is 30 minutes long and also came with a music CD, which I thought was nice. The songs on the CD are written by Rachel Coleman and include Rachel and the TreeSchoolers, I Wonder, The Weather Song, What Makes a Cloud?, Lightning and Thunder, Share It, Rhyming Time and Itsy Bitsy Spider (Never Give Up.) Singing helps young children learn and remember new concepts.  I felt the DVD and CD were both excellent for preschool age children and the children seemed to really enjoy both. I feel this is a great beginning to a new preschool curriculum and I would be interested in using other episodes. I actually played the DVD twice back to back per the children's request each time the children watched it.
Have you seen this DvD? What other preschool learning DVDs have you watched?

I received one or more of the products mentioned above for free using Tomoson.com. Regardless, I only recommend products or services I use personally and believe will be good for my readers.

Let Children Make Mistakes

Many parents believe that mistakes are bad, that mistakes should not be made, and should be hidden, and if  you make mistakes you are a failure. These beliefs can be very damaging to children. Children who are taught that mistakes are bad, when faced with the possibility of making a mistake, may choose to do nothing and don't even try. Children who are very afraid of making mistakes can become frustrated, discouraged and depressed.

Parents should teach their children that mistakes are opportunities for learning and are a natural part of life. The way to show children that mistakes are okay, is by allowing them to make choices, good and bad and learn from them. We as parents can encourage our children to try again by not yelling and getting angry when they make mistakes. When we yell and scream at our children for making mistakes they will become wary of choices and responsibility. Sharing your mistakes with your children and talking about what you learned from your experience is a great way to teach them about decision making.  So actually when our children make mistakes it's not a bad thing, it's just another opportunity for them to become wiser.
